Univerzita Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně

Tomas Bata University (TBU) in Zlín is a Czech public university located in the Moravian city of Zlín. TBU is an open and flexible higher education institution, developed following five central values: entrepreneurship, openness, usefulness, creativity and responsibility. More than 9,000 students study at six TBU faculties that provide studies in technology, economics, humanities, multimedia communication, informatics and logistics.

One of the important research directions is the design of energy storage devices carried out within the University Institute Centre of Polymer Systems, which obtained the HR Award HRS4R granted by the EC to excellent research institutions. TBU has available specialized LCA software, laboratories and certified cleanrooms used for energy components – pilot production line for experimental production of pouch batteries.

Role of Project

The TBU research is developed in several directions related to Li-ion batteries and supercapacitors. Moreover, the relationship between the energy systems, environment and society is being examined from a multidisciplinary viewpoint. The role of the TBU team within SMHYLES is to integrate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC), and social value assessment. TBU will support the consortium with the environmental, economic, and social impact assessments of the developed technologies. The environmental impacts of energy storage systems (VRBF, NaNiCl2, and novel aqueous supercapacitors) and selected hybrid energy storage technologies use cases along their life cycle will be quantified and a socio-economic risk assessment performer. Specifically social hotspot analysis will be conducted to evaluate the potential risks associated with hybrid energy storage systems.
