FUNDACION CIRCE CENTRO DE INVESTIGACION DE RECURSOS Y CONSUMOS ENERGETICOS
CIRCE is a non-profit technology centre, based in Zaragoza, Spain, composed of almost 300 people. The Centre works towards improving the competitiveness of enterprises through the generation of technology transfer by means of R+D activities and market-oriented training within the field of resource sustainability and effectiveness, energy grids and renewable energies.
CIRCE is a reference in applied collaborative R&D, with great experience in European Projects. Its expertise has been well demonstrated through its participation in 74 Horizon 2020 projects (22 coordinated), and 31 Horizon Europe projects (7 coordinated).
The Electrical Systems Area is devoted to the work on Smart Grids, electric networks, power electronics and energy storage. Its activities range from power electronics development, power quality, grid studies, reliability and continuity of electrical supply, technology validation tests (by means of RTDS), and SCADA web system development for renewable integration and storage.
Role in Project
CIRCE will contribute to the SMHYLES project through its expertise in Smart Grids Operation, specifically through Network Operation and Planning and Energy Resources Management.
CIRCE has gained previous experience through several H2020, and HE projects, such as SYNERGY, REEFLEX and FLEXICIENCY. Throughout these projects, CIRCE has developed expertise in Facility Management Energy Analytics, Self-consumption Optimization and Predictive Maintenance, advanced grid-level analytics services, etc. Moreover, CIRCE is also active in the development of a set of solutions for IoT devices to allow them to maximise their flexibility potential, including a second-life storage solution with advanced functionalities for demand response and the development and design of energy boxes and energy plugs able to implement the aggregator services in a final client.
These efforts are the basis for the SMHYLES project with a focus on battery-only management with a given external setpoint. Therefore, CIRCE is involved (technically and economically) in covering SMHYLES’s necessary dimensions of EMS development and evolution.
